The Toy Car That Follows My Son Around (And Got Him Off My Phone)

Notes on the Magic Induction Smart RC Car: four play modes, no screens, and a kid who actually wants to be on the floor.

Every parent I know has the same quiet battle. Homework is done, dinner is over, and a small hand reaches for the phone. I've tried timers, rules and bribes, and the thing that has worked best is a toy that gives him something more fun to do.

A few weeks ago we got a small car that doesn't need a remote at all. Here's how it won him over, what it can do, and what I'd tell another parent who's thinking about it.

The Car That Follows Him Around

The Magic Induction Smart RC Car has built-in infrared sensors that track hand gestures. Switch on Following Mode, hold a hand out in front of the car, and it locks on and follows every move around the room. No buttons, no remote, no instructions.

Then he rolled the little yellow induction ball across the floor and the car chased it. He couldn't stop laughing.

It's one of the few toys I've seen that turns passive screen time into active, moving-around play almost instantly.

Drawing The Track Is Half The Fun

This is the part I didn't expect to love. In Line Patrol Mode, your child draws a thick black line on paper and the car follows it. Sharp turns, loops, zigzags, anything they can imagine.

A track sheet comes in the box, or you can use any sheet of paper and a marker with a line about 4mm or wider.

Our evenings now include a lot of designing and redesigning. He and his cousin compete over who can draw the trickiest route. It's creativity and spatial thinking, with no screen in sight.

What Happened To The Screen Time

I won't pretend one toy fixes everything. But this car gives him something that holds his attention for a long stretch without a screen, and he picks it up by himself.

  • Active, screen-free play
  • Builds reaction time and coordination
  • Three smart modes keep it fresh
  • Gets him moving around indoors

The Mode That Makes The Whole Room Laugh

Sensor Avoidance Mode is the one every visiting kid asks about. The moment a hand reaches toward the car, it detects the movement and dashes away, playing music and calling out "Come! Catch me!" as it goes.

It works both ways: let it chase you, or chase it. At our last house party this mode had six kids running around the living room laughing for forty-five minutes straight.

Escape Mode: the car runs away, the kids give chase.

It Also Works As A Regular RC Car

For kids who want full control, Remote Mode gives you forward, backward, left, right and full 360Β° spins. The 2.4GHz signal means several cars can race at the same time without clashing, which is handy for playdates.

The grip remote is sized for small hands. Beginners pick it up in minutes, older kids race each other, and yes, the parents take turns when nobody is watching.

Beginners can stick to Follow Mode, competitive kids can race with the remote, and everyone laughs at Escape Mode. One car covers a lot of ages and skill levels.

Easy Enough For Little Hands

Follow Mode needs zero skill. You walk and the car follows. Escape Mode needs no coordination either: just chase it and laugh every time it gets away. Remote Mode keeps things simple with forward, back, turn and spin.

There's nothing to assemble or configure. The car is USB rechargeable and comes with its cable, so it's ready to play out of the box, with no hunting for batteries for the car itself.

The recommended age is 5 and above. Younger siblings love joining in, but I'd keep them playing with a grown-up nearby.

Where To Get It, And A Note On Stock

This car is sold directly through Kiddle rather than in toy stores, and it comes with a 6-month warranty and support from our team if anything goes wrong.

One practical note: popular toys sell through in batches, and restocks can take a while. If you're thinking about getting one, it's better to order while it's available than to wait and have your child ask again in a month.
